THE AREA
Wolseley is situated in the picturesque Breede River Valley of the Western Cape Province of South Africa. The Wolseley area is rich in vineyards, orchards, cattle farms and wheat fields. Wolseley was established in 1875 as Ceres Road Station and in 1910 named after Sir Garnet Wolseley, a British Governor in Natal.
Wolseley is situated on a natural watershed that divides the Berg River (renowned for the annual Berg River Marathon) and the Breede River (one of the largest navigable rivers in South Africa). The town is surrounded by the Waaihoek mountains, Witzenmountains and Waterfall mountains and is unique in that it can be accessed via any one of four scenic passes: Du Toitskloof Pass, Bainskloof Pass, Nuwekloof Pass and Michells Pass.
