THE MANOR HOUSE
A national heritage monument and approximately 200 years old; great care has been taken in the restoration and refurbishment of this Cape Dutch house which features an imposing entrance hall, an enormous eat-in kitchen with an open fireplace, a dining room, a generous lounge, two patios and a large outdoor braai and hot tub area.
SLEEPING
3 spacious en-suite bedrooms. Crisp white cotton sheets, antique brass chandeliers, velvet throws, soft plush blankets, scented candles, thick bath towels and Persian carpets give the bedrooms and bathrooms a 5-star feel.
LIVING
The kitchen is equipped with everything needed to prepare gourmet meals, from quality cutlery and an assortment of beautiful antique and vintage blue and white crockery, to crystal glasses and Le Creuset pots and pans. The long scrubbed table can easily seat 12 people and hours can be spent here in front of the open hearth.
A round dam at the house, overlooking the vineyard and olive grove, has been converted into a pool with a deck.
THE AREA
This is wine country - the youngest wine route in South Africa and just 90 km outside of Cape Town, the Breedekloof Wine Route includes 22 wineries in the Rawsonville, Slanghoek, Goudini and Breede River areas ranging from small boutique cellars to estates.
The area is also great for hiking as well as mountain biking, horse riding and fly fishing.
Ceres is quite close for a leisurely scenic drive. Tulbagh is a bit further but is also worth the drive. There are plenty of interesting shops, beautiful architecture and many restaurants and wine farms. The Slanghoek Valley extends towards the west and the scenery is spectacular.
GOOD TO KNOW
Errol or Ishmael will be on hand to greet you and explain everything on arrival. Eikehof is on the R43 en-route Ceres. Take the Olifantsberg turn-off; the farm is the second farm on your right.
The Homestead is fully equipped so you don't need to bring much! Bring your own food, drinks, favourite board games and your hiking boots. There is an assortment of spices and condiments available, as well as coffee, tea, sugar and long-life milk. Two bags of firewood per day are also provided, as are bath towels and swimming towels.
Book a private chef to cater throughout your stay! Two chefs are available; enquire for prices upon booking.
There are 130 hectares on the farm to explore. Eikehof extends up the Olifantsberg Mountain and has a beautiful kloof for scenic hiking to see all the endemic fynbos that flourish in the area. A farm dam a short distance away, above the house, offers amazing swimming in crystal clear mountain water.
There are many lovely spots for a tranquil picnic in the farm's fairytale forest through which a small stream runs. Picnic baskets are available in the house – just fill them with your choice of gourmet ingredients. The Worcester Mountain Mill Mall is 10 km and has a large selection of shops, including a Woolworths and a Pick n Pay.
A cleaning service is provided daily except for Sundays and public holidays.
Unfortunately, Eikehof does not allow pets due to their tame chickens and goats that roam about the farm.
